A quiet space for passing time

Kyoto Poké Lids

Azumarill & Totodile

Coordinates: 34°59’16.1″N 135°44’36.7″E

I figured the Kyoto Poké Lids were fairly easy to get to if you’re starting from Kyoto Station, so we commenced with the closest one, and hopped on the San-In Line from Platform 33(it’s just one stop away) and got off at Umekōji-Kyōtonishi Station. Side note: There were buses, and we probably could have walked, but with other lids to get to, we figured the train would save us a good amount of time.

Once we got there, we spotted the Azumarill and Totodile lid—and conveniently, was right next to a Starbucks so we had a quick coffee break before heading off to the next ones.

Chikorita & Shiftry

Coordinates: 34°59’41.2″N 135°42’51.6″E

This one involved taking the city bus. I can’t quite remember if we had to transfer, but it took a while to reach the stop, and a bit longer once we set off on foot. Either way, we made it to our destination—I’m pretty sure this one was next to the baseball stadium.

Ho-Oh

Coordinates: 35°00’42.7″N 135°40’43.5″E

From the Chikorita & Shiftry lid, we hopped on the Hankyu Kyoto Line at nearby Nishikyogoku Station and rode to Katsura Station. From there, we transferred to the Hankyu Arashiyama Line and made our way to Arashiyama. After getting off, we headed toward Togetsukyo Bridge, which spans the Katsura River—a well-known tourist spot lined with shops and cafés at the foot of the bridge.

There, we followed the coordinates to the lid featuring the Rainbow Pokémon and Legendary Guardian of the Skies, Ho-oh.

The first three on this page were pretty much taken in one day. We had time to do more, but we already had the other ones around the Kyoto City area.

Pichu, Cleffa & Igglypuff

Coordinates: 35°00’12.1″N 135°46’50.1″E

This is the one I featured in the intro to my Poké Lid journey. Since it was the very first lid we photographed, it felt like the natural choice for the example.

On one of our days off, we were wandering around Kawaramachi when we realized the lid was over at Yasaka Shrine, just nearby—so of course, we took a quick detour to get the shot.

Cyndaquil & Darmanitan

Coordinates: 35°00’53.5″N 135°46’55.3″E

The Cyndaquil & Darmanitan lid is located near a Shinto shrine close to ROHM Theatre Kyoto. I happened to be in the area for a national exam (one I seem to be taking annually at this point…) and noticed the Poké Lid was right across the street from my exam venue. My husband was in a different part of the city, so he made the trip over to meet me so we could grab the shot together—and spin the Poké Stop for the Pokémon GO Stamp Rally.

That’s it for the Kyoto City Poké Lids. The Uji Poké Lids are still a work in progress and will be added here soon, so feel free to check back later!
